Building a Model: Newspaper Dome

Before attempting to build our dome out of wood and screws, we first decided to build a model of a two-frequency hub and strut dome.  To do so, we used the following materials:

        newspaper

        masking tape

   To begin, we rolled three sheets of newspaper into tubes, and taped the ends.

    Then we cut the newspaper to 30 66cm and 35 71cm lengths, making two piles.

    We then attached10 long tubes to one another to form a base.

    From two adjacent points we extended two tubes to meet at a point....

    .... until we had a circle of triangles, alternating between long and short sides.

   We then connected the tips of the triangles together with short tubes.

     From each joint we attached one short with two longs to form an isosceles triangle.

    We added a row of longs across the tops of the triangles and then five shorts to meet at a point.  Then we had....

    ....a DOME!

        Yay!
